About My Work
I have focused much of my work on urban history, contemporary cities, and the history of ideas or intellectual history, often with a focus on urban ideas or urban institutions related to intellectual life.
Books include: Toward an Urban Vision (1975), Community and Social Change in America (1978), New York Intellect (1987), co.ed. Budapest and New York (1994), The Unfinished City: New York and the Metropolitan idea (2002), co ed. Urban Assemblages: How Actor-Network Theory Changes Urban Studies (2010), co ed. Urban Imaginaries: Locating the Modern City (2007)
