About My Work
My research interests include Asian port cities, Chinese migration, British Empire and Hong Kong history. My current research project, tentatively titled ‘Seeking Home in the Colonial Port: Migration and Settlement of Chinese Workers in Hong Kong, c. 1890-1941’, examines labour mobility and belonging in Asian port cities through the interactions between everyday life of mobile Chinese labourers and colonial governance. More broadly, my research matches with the project in exploring the relationship of cities, their mobile inhabitants and the nation-state system in the modern world.
